TAWAU: Solving people’s problems will be a continuous process for the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko).

“This is not a one-off thing; we want the people to know that Upko is always with them and we will do our level best to take up their cases to the authorities concerned,” said Upko acting president Datuk Madius Tangau when opening the Upko Tawau’s people service programme at the Dewan Pisompuruan DMYKC in Kampung Piuludan Andrassy here Sunday.

Madius, who is Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, said there was still room for improvement as far as the delivery service is concerned.

“As we can see in Lahad Datu and now here the highest number of complaints received were about the identity documentation. In this respect, we want the National Registration Department to go to the ground to resolve this matter,” he said.

Madius said it was sad to see many people of the Pasokmomogun still without identity card while there is persistent perception that “people who have just arrived in Sabah could easily get ICs.”

He urged Upko members and leaders, particularly at the grassroots level, to continue listening to the grouses of the people in line with “our motto which is principle-centred servanthood leadership.”

“Listen and record what the people complain to you. Do not argue or try to deny them the right to present their case to the authorities,” he said.

Madius also called on Upko members to take part in the move to increase the party membership from the present 130,000 to 300,000 before the 14th General Election.

Among the Upko leaders at the programme were vice presidents Datuk Marcus Mojigoh, Datuk Wences Angang, Datuk Ewon Ebin and Datuk Masiung Banah, secretary general Datuk Donald Mojuntin and supreme council members as well as Upko Tawau chief Sylvester Taing.
