KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah announced the formation of a new opposition coalition – Pakatan Harapan – after a round table meeting with political parties and NGOs at Hotel Empire, Subang this morning.

“Mengumumkan penubuhan front pembangkang terbaharu..PAKATAN HARAPAN untuk mendepani BN pada PRU akan datang..kita mengalu-alukan penyertaan semua parti politik di Semenanjung dan Sabah serta Sarawak..mari bersama-sama kita ‘Selamatkan Malaysia’..” she said in a Facebook posting.

“Announcing the formation of a new coalition front.. PAKATAN HARAPAN to face BN in the coming general elections.. we invite the participation of all political parties from Peninsular Malaysia as well as Sabah and Sarawak.. Let’s all ‘Save Malaysia’ together..”

The new coalition comes after weeks of speculation of an alliance between PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) in the cards.

In June this year, DAP had announced its pullout from the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) alliance following Parti Islam Se-Malaysia’s (PAS) decision to pursue the implementation of hudud law in the country.

Amanah was formed by former PAS members said to be disappointed after being rejected by PAS members at the annual assembly in June.
