KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is still a coalition partner of PAS in the opposition pact as pointed out in the party’s Congress previously, said PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
However, he stressed that there was no cooperation between the party and the DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
“PKR is still a coalition partner of PAS in the Pakatan Rakyat (Opposition Pact) as had been pointed out in the Congress,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
He pointed out that the party would continue to be with the opposition in issues that concerned public interest and would oppose any abuse of power, corruption and misappropriation of public funds.
“PAS appreciates the invitation by PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and deputy president Azmin Ali to attend the round table talks of the opposition, but PAS opted not to attend it,” he said.
Tuan Ibrahim said meetings between PAS and the PKR would be held from time to time and would always evaluate issues that cropped up between the parties as had been emphasised by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
“PAS will focus all efforts to strengthen the party machinery from all aspects first as preparation to face the Umno-BN in the 14th General Election (GE14),” he said.
Wan Azizah had announced that the PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) had agreed to form the new opposition
pact to be known as ‘Pakatan Harapan’ after chairing the round-table talks on the formation of the new opposition pact, yesterday.
Dr Wan Azizah also said that the formation of ‘Pakatan Harapan’ would not affect the position of the Selangor government because the “Menteri Besar (Mohamed Azmin Ali) received the support of the majority of the Selangor State Assemblymen…the Selangor government is stable”.
Out of the 56 Selangor State Assemblymen, two of the 15 PAS Assemblymen had left the party to join Amanah. The DAP has 15 assemblymen and PKR 13. The BN has 12 while there is one independent Assemblyman.
PAS has three assemblymen who are members of the Selangor State Executive Council. — Bernama
