Dance troupes put up impressive show at Sibu Esplanade

Vehaara Arts, Malaysia in ‘Odissi’ (‘Hari Haro Mangalacharan’)

SIBU: Thirteen foreign dance troupes of Sibu International Dance Festival (SIDF) participated in an outdoor performance at Sibu Esplanade on Wednesday night.

They were Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) Dance Art; Youth Dance Ensemble of Sri Lanka; University of the Philippines Dance Co. (UPDC); Sun-Shier Dance Theatre, Taiwan; Sasang Fringe, South Korea; Kota and Yoshita, Japan; Voy Arts Ensemble, Hong Kong; Darmawan Dadijono (Iwan), Indonesia; Borneo Dance Theatre, Malaysia; Movement Collective, Singapore; Vehaara Arts, Malaysia; Xin Yi Dance Troupe, Singapore; and Foon Yew High School Dance Society, Malaysia.

The troupes presented a mixture of cultural, modern contemporary and hip-hop dances. The outdoor performances were done impromptu at any location which served as a make-shift stage.

It was divided into a few sections – square, stage, iron frame, and red booth. SIDF started the outdoor performances in 2013, allowing dancers from outside Sibu to explore the town.
