PUTRAJAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has urged Malaysians, especially traders in Jalan Alor and surrounding areas in Kuala Lumpur to remain calm and have confidence in the police to keep the streets safe.

“I must commend our police and (their) intelligence (network) in having done a good job in handling terrorist issues in the country.

“We hope the police continue to strengthen surveillance to ensure we are free of terrorist attacks in the country,” he said in a press conference after the Post Conference Dialogue with Industry Leaders at his office here yesterday.

Liow, who is also Transport Minister was asked to comment on a travel advisory issued by the United States Embassy and Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, on the possibility of terrorist attacks in Jalan Alor near Bukit Bintang and its surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Liow urged the police to take action against any individual who called for a rally in Petaling Street today (Sept 26).

Coalition of Malay NGOs chairman, Datuk Jamal Md Yunus has threatened to hold another rally in Jalan Petaling today.

On the party’s Post Conference Dialogue with Industry Leaders, Liow said 10 resolutions were presented by the industry leaders, which would be brought up at the next MCA annual delegates meeting.

He said, among them were a shortage of local skilled workers in key industries like logistics and difficulty in getting foreign workers for the commodities sector. — Bernama
