KUCHING: Sharpshooters stole the show with their skills during the 2nd Series of the Sarawak Invitational Blowpipe Competition 2015 at Le’ Park Civic Centre here yesterday.

Banone Akim of Kampung Podam, Bau emerged champion of the Individual Women’s Invitation Category, while Meli Tintang of Kota Samarahan took the first prize in the Individual Men’s Invitation Category.

The winners, who topped the scores in both Standing and Squatting disciplines, took home RM500 each as well as certificates of participation.

Banone, who represented K Sumpit SDNU Team, was accompanied by her husband Poria Abun who also participated in the competition.

According to Poria, his wife had won a similar competition in Kalimantan, Indonesia where she bagged over RM7,000.

Meanwhile, Meli, who represented Raja Remaong Kota Samarahan, was the winner of the Blowpipe Competition run by Redeems in Bau, which offered RM500, and also a similar competition in Kalimantan that earned him about RM4,000.

In the Open Women’s Individual Category, second prize of RM400 went to Inda Ahoi representing Raja Remaong Kota Samarahan, while Mahami Adam of Kelab Menyumpit Bau took the third prize of RM300.

In the Open Men’s Individual Category, Paul Tuah and Ngelai Udin of Kelab Menyumpit Julau placed second and third, respectively, walking away with RM400 and RM300, respectively.

The overall champion (Team Championship Trophy) went to Raja Remaong Kota Samarahan.

The competition was held as part of the Blowpipe Carnival, organised by Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) and the Ministry of Social Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism.

Six teams from Sarawak and two from West Kalimantan took part in seven categories – Individual Men’s and Women’s Invitation, Men’s and Women’s Team Invitation, Mixed Individual Invitation as well as Open Men’s and Women’s Individual.

The three-day carnival, which ended yesterday, featured various cultural performances, activities as well as seminars and workshops.

Among those present were competition organising chairman Anthony Bayan, Sebastian Sujang representing Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan, SDNU Supreme Council member Datuk Paduka Anthony Niat, Indonesian contingent head Agustinus Clarus, SDNU Youth chief Churchill Edward and Serakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Samarahan chief Emas Gijak.
