KUALA LUMPUR: National backup men’s doubles pair, Jagdish Singh/Roni Tan Wee Long bagged their first international career title after clinching the 2015 Sydney International Badminton Championship at the Netball Central in New South Wales, Australia.
The unseeded pair however, faced stiff resistance from Wei Chen Liu/Yang Po Han of Taiwan before emerging triumphant, scoring 13-21, 21-17 and 21- 11 in the 51-minute match, reports Badminton World Federation (BWF) website www. bwfbadminton.org.
The victory saw them avenge their defeat to the same opponents after losing in the opening round of the 2015 Malaysian Masters held at the Stadium Perpaduan in Kuching on March.
Meanwhile, national men’s shuttler, Zulfadli Zulkiffli failed to land his first title of the season after going down 11-21 and 12-21 to seasoned player, Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam in the men’s singles final. — Bernama
