Sarawak slip to third, Clement’s solitary gold

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAKUCHING: Clement Thian Fung Seng provided the only golden glitter for Sarawak on the second day of the 25th National Wushu Championship at SJK Chung Hua No. 3 Alumni Hall yesterday by topping the men’s gunshu with 9.53 points.

It was his second medal of the meet after he captured the bronze in the men’s daoshu on the opening day on Friday.

Sarawak also won the bronze medal in the event through Clement Ting Su Wei who scored 9.31 points, finishing just 0.02 points behind joint third Ooi Yew Hung of Perak while Malacca’s Tan Cheong Wan took the silver on 9.40 points.

The state team ended day two with one gold, one silver and two bronze to finish in third spot with a total of three gold, one silver and four bronze medals.

Lee Hui Xian, who bagged the gold in the women’s daoshu on Friday, missed out on capturing her second gold, scoring 9.26 points in the women’s gunshu to lose to Negeri Sembilan’s Choong Hui Ying by just 0.03 points.

The other bronze medal was won by Bong Yun En who scored 8.30 points to finish behind Malacca’s Ng Chih Yu (8.37), Johor’s Teo Seng Hwei (8.32) and Negeri Sembilan’s Chang Jen Wei (8.30).

Malacca won three more gold yesterday to bring their tally to seven gold, six silver and four bronze medals to sit atop the medal table.

In a close second was Negeri Sembilan with 6-6-9. Pahang and Johor broke the duck yesterday to win a gold medal each through Low Feng Yuan and Leong Tien Wai in men’s dual play, and Lim Jiang Han in the men’s taijiquan. Nine more gold medals are up for grabs in today’s final day of competition.
