Two diamond miners killed buried in Banjarbaru

BANJARBARU, South Kalimantan: Two diamond miners in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, killed after the hole they had dug with group avalanched on Saturday afternoon, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

Sungai Tiung Headman Syahbanto in Banjarbaru on Saturday confirmed two miners were killed in a landslide hole when panning activities took place.

“We have received reports of two people died when the pan, ie Wahyuni and Husaini on the scene about 15:00,” he said.

He mentioned, both victims registered as residents of the village of Ujung Murung, Sungai Tiung RT 33 and were buried in a public cemetery around the residence.

He said the unfortunate events that befall the two were happening in the hole panning known as “semayat” located in the village of Pumpung, Cempaka sub-district.

He explained that the incidence of the death of miners is common for people around that most of them running semitraditional panning activity.

He said, though only received reports of death, he would still take care of a death benefit to the beneficiary if they take care of it according to the procedure.
