Jang Altel 2 rule the waves on the Sarawak River

KUCHING: Jang Altel 2 earned the title ‘King of the River’ after winning the premier Bidar 30 Paddlers Open category of the Sarawak Regatta 2015 at the Kuching Waterfront yesterday.

The team lifted the Tuan Yang Terutama Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak Challenge Trophy and also walked away with the champion’s trophy and RM10,000.

The race which lasted just over 7 minutes was witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and his wife Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Dato Jamilah Anu.

Runner-up were Enraz Cahaya Zen-3 who collected RM8,000.

Kumpulan Yayasan Sarawak-3 finished third and received RM6,000.

In the Bidar 30 Men Paddlers race over 1km, Landas 51 finished first to claim the Sarawak State Secretary Challenge Trophy, while Landas 41 and Sinaran Ratu Balqis were second and third respectively.

Landas 31 took home the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Challenge Trophy for winning the Bidar 15-Men race ahead of Landas 22 and Sinaran Ratu Balqis.

The top three teams in the Kenyalang 20-Men race were Jang who picked up the Iltizam Centre Miri Trophy, Kumpulan Yayasan Sarawak and Landas 36.

The Sarawak Tourism Ministry Challenge Trophy for the Kenyalang Mixed Category (15 men, 5 women) went to Mutiara Jang Sambas who finished in front of Enraz Cahaya Zen-2 and Kumpulan Yayasan Sarawak.

Among those present to watch the finals of Regatta 2015 were former Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng, Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and Assistant Minister of Resource Planning Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.
