MRC Charity Run draws 1,500 hearty participants

MIRI: More than 1,500 runners participated in Malaysia Red Crescent (MRC) Miri chapter’s Charity Run at Marina ParkCity yesterday.

The run was held in conjunction with World Heart Celebration was officiated by Assistant Minister of Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

All the runners started assembling at the event venue at 5.30am for registration.

Lee who is also Assistant Minister of Communications then joined the runners for a zumba exercise before flagging off the event.

The event was held to raise funds to finance the MRC chapter’s charitable and humanitarian activities.

In addition to that, it was held to create awareness on the cardiovascular need for people to walk 10,000 steps a day to keep the heart healthy.

For the run, participants took part in five categories: 8km for the 13-17 age group, 18 to 40 and 41 years and above, 4km route for family and a 2km fun run.
