BINTULU: Special Olympics Sarawak celebrated the life of Special Olympics Movement founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver by organising an Athletes’ Fellowship in Bintulu last Saturday and Sunday.

Various activities were held with the aim to challenge, motivate and inspire athletes and coaches from Special Olympics Sarawak’s Bintulu, Miri and Sibu chapters.

These included bocce games, a special dinner sponsored by Bintulu-based Shell MDS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, an outing to the Borneo International Kite Festival and a luncheon sponsored by Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd.

Special Olympics Sarawak is the local branch of the Malaysian affiliate of the Special Olympics global movement which emphasises the use of sports to help develop people with intellectual disabilities and special needs to undertake day-to-day activities and become independent members of their community.

They hoped that committing acts of inclusion, acceptance and unity for and with people with intellectual disabilities would continue to build on the legacy of Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
