SIBU: Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob expects to have a discussion with the Ministry of Higher Education over the possibility of excluding GiatMara students from Sijil Pendidikan Malaysia (SPM) requirement when pursuing higher education.

He said he was pursuing the matter with UniKL to enable GiatMara students to further their studies to diploma, degree and higher levels.

He said this after visiting the GiatMara Centre here yesterday.

Ismail Sabri said he planned to have two groups of students at GiatMara, with the first comprising those who had completed their training while the other, students wanting to further their studies.

When asked on the request to close Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) due to haze, Ismail said students were not allowed to attend class as the classrooms did not have air conditioners.

“This is hazardous to the students’ health,” he explained.

However, he advised students to go to air-conditioned rooms, such as the library, to do their studies.

Among those present was Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.
