LAWAS: Lawas Foochow Association is full of praise for Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for his straight-forward approach and commitment in serving Sarawakians with fairness and personal touch.

Its chairman, Yong Kah Chu, said the Chinese community was happy with Adenan’s firm leadership and for extending assistance to Chinese education in the state.

“His approach and commitment to look after the interest of us all, irrespective of race, creed or colour, is praise-worthy and we will support him,” he said in his speech at the association’s 40th anniversary dinner on Sunday night.

Yong also commended Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment and Bukit Sari assemblyman Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong for their support towards the development of the Foochow and the Chinese communities here.

“Both have done a lot in supporting us, particularly the Foochow community, and we will reciprocate by supporting BN when the time comes,” he said.

Yong said Awang Tengah had proven to be a leader for all races in Lawas by his fair leadership in bringing all the different communities in the district together.

Meanwhile, Henry who represented Awang Tengah to officiate the 40th anniversary cum Sarawak Foochow Senior Citizens Sports Carnival dinner at Lawas Indoor Stadium said the Foochow community played a key role in the overall development and progress of the state.

“We have known each other since we were young, grew up together and now live in peace and harmony, irrespective of our backgrounds. And it is only right that we must safeguard this as One Sarawak race,” he said.

Among those at the function were former federal minister Tan Sri Ting Chu Pei and chairmen of Foochow associations throughout the state, Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Brunei, Labuan and United States.

Also present were PBB Youth Central exco member Abu Bahrin Reduan and Bukit Sari Youth chief Councillor Semie Nasip.
