MIRI: Trakarn Thangthong of Thailand conquered the Miri Go-Kart Circuit track to win the Federation Internationale De Motocyclisme (FIM) Asia Supermoto Championship 2015 on Sunday.

The 21-year-old defeated 14 other international riders from eight countries.

The participating countries were Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Korea, United Kingdom and Brunei.

The two-day event, organised by Penang Motorsports Club (PMSC) in collaboration with FIM Asia, was held for the first time in Borneo.

Mohd Al-Amirul Ashshahid, Muhammad Habibullah and Khairi Zakaria all from Malaysia finished second, third and fourth respectively.

The Miri race represented the fourth of the 6-round championship after earlier rounds held in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

It took place concurrently with the Malaysian SuperMoto Championship (MSMC) which was exclusively for Malaysian riders.

Stealing the limelight in MSMC was the only female rider Siti Fatimah Husna Muslim who won the SM CKD category.

Other winners among the 47-strong local field were Al-Amirul (SM Open), Muhammad Nur Ramadan Razali (SM Novice), Mohd Safuan Muslim (SM CKD Open) and Zakaria Muri (SM Veteran).

Assistant Sports Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin gave away the prizes.
