KOTA KINABALU: The police have issued a summons to the driver of a lorry laden with drums containing nitric acid for negligently dropping eight drums which caused acid to spill on the road in Inanam this morning.

Kota Kinabalu City police chief, ACP M. Chandra said initial investigations revealed the eight drums were found bound one on top of another using a small rope which was not fastened properly.

“When he reached the bend, eight black plastic drums came apart and fell from the lorry,” he said in a statement here today.

He said the incident occurred near a primary and secondary school in Kolombong at 9.46am.

Chandra said firemen were deployed to carry out a cleaning-up operation by sprinkling white powder to neutralise the acid.– BERNAMA
