KUCHING: A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed while his female pillion rider seriously injured when they collided with a pickup on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place around 2pm in Stapok when the pickup – which witnesses claimed was a white Toyota Hilux – came into contact with the motorcycle in front of a Chinese primary school.

The driver of the pickup truck stopped for a while in the middle of the road after the collision, but then sped away from the scene.

The male victim, identified only as Khairul Azahar, was pronounced dead on the spot by medical personnel.

The female pillion rider, 17-year-old Nuratikah Besri from Kampung Segedup, was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital where she was admitted.

Traffic police personnel were on hand to investigate and interview several persons at the scene who claimed to have witnessed what happened.

In an unrelated incident, three parked vehicles were badly damaged after being struck by a pickup that went out of control in Satok on Tuesday morning.

Witnesses reported that the pickup, a Mitsubishi Triton, was travelling on the main road when it went out of control and got on the pavement before ramming the vehicles in the parking lot of a commercial centre.

No injuries were reported in the accident, which saw two other parked vehicles suffer minor damage from the impact of the collision.
