KAPIT: Rural communities have been asked to remain with the government so that their socioeconomic status will continue to improve.

Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said development projects that will benefit the people here include the Baleh Dam and also the creation of the Bukit Mabong District.

“It will surely bring socioeconomic impact that will benefit people under its administrative jurisdiction,” he said during a Leader with the People event organised by the Labour Department at Rumah Unting recently.

He also stressed that rural folk who wish to seek employment in other countries must register with the Labour Department.

Meanwhile, Labour Department Kapit senior assistant director Khusyairy Pangkas said the event aimed to disseminate information on the roles and functions of government departments to rural folk.

Also involved in the programme were representatives from the Immigration Department, National Registration Department, Fire and Rescue Department, Social Security Organisation, Kapit Hospital, and Ministry of Social Development.
