KUCHING: The Bidayuh Youth Symposium 2015 this weekend will be a platform to chart the way forward for youths from the community.

Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik said some 1,000 participants are expected during the two-day event at the DBNA headquarters.

Jointly organised by DBNA and the Bidayuh Graduates Association (BGA), the symposium is held in connection with DBNA’s 60th anniversary.

“Just like our other symposiums, we collect feedback from participants to work out an action plan. For this one, we are collecting feedback from the youths to come up with a five-year action plan for the Bidayuh youth agenda,” Ik said after the symposium organising committee meeting on Wednesday.

Organising chairman Dr Kismet Hong Ping said registration for the symposium is free for Bidayuh youths aged between 17 and 45.

“The goal of this symposium is to provide Bidayuh youths with the information and resources for career advancement. This will be accomplished through education and communication with experts.

“The symposium will cover four main areas namely academic pursuit and excellence, career in public sector, professional and technical and entrepreneurship,” he said.

Speakers for the symposium themed ‘Ja’Ta! … Ja Meh!’ include Dr Francis Juieng Nyahon, Datu Dr Michael Dosim Lunjew and Professor Dr Peter Songan.

The panelists and facilitators are Dr John Panil, Associate Professor Dr Alexander K Sayok, Datuk Peter Nyomek, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Professor Dr Andrew Ragai Henry Rigit, Associate Professor Dr Firdaus Abdullah, Dr Clarence Jerry, Dr Alim Impira, Dr Dency Flenny Gawin, Dr Hollena Nori and Capt Bernard Idit.

There will also be a special awards presentation on Sunday.
