BINTANGOR: Enforcement officers from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) yesterday made another successful raid in Ulu Sungai Gemuan where they managed to seize 85 logs.

The logs, which amounted to 20 cubic metres in volume, are believed to have been illegally procured with no authorised markings on them.

According to a SFC spokesperson, the operation was conducted following a public tip-off.

“Initial attempts to locate the alleged illegal logging site by SFC were unsuccessful but with the help of an informant, we managed to pinpoint the location via Google Earth image.

“We find that this has been a novel and effective way by any party in assisting enforcement work by the SFC. It is very much appreciated.”

The spokesperson also said SFC hoped more members of the public, who spotted what might look like illegal logging, would come forward to help the agency in the fight against the practice in Sarawak.

To report such cases, call SFC’s hotline 019-8859996 (Kuching), 019-8290994 (Miri), 019-8266096 (Bintulu) or 019-8290992 (Sibu).
