KANOWIT: All chieftains across the Ngemah state constituency have been tasked to identify longhouse residents who are still without identification documents, and submit the list immediately to National Registration Department (NRD).

Assemblyman Alexander Vincent said the rationale behind this was that the longhouse chiefs would know issues and problems faced by their own ‘anembiak’ (followers) better than elected representatives.

“Our Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Home Affairs Minister, has said he would help Sarawakians on this matter.

“So do grab this opportunity and have your fellow residents who have yet to possess identification documents to register with
NRD,” he said after officiating at a ‘Leader Meets People’ session at Rumah Tedong Mani in Ulu Tuah here on Sunday.

Earlier, the assemblyman performed the ground-breaking for the new 15-door longhouse, Rumah Joshua Medan, near Sungai Tuah.

For the record, there are around 200 longhouses under Ngemah constituency.

Later at the function, Alexander announced an allocation of RM15,000 for Rumah Tedong. The ceremony was witnessed by his wife Susan Clement, Councillor Bunut Kubu of Kanowit District Council and local community leaders Penghulu Barnabas Angkis and Penghulu Ijam Tuah.
