Najib’s suit: Anina files application to suspend proceeding

KUALA LUMPUR: Former UMNO member Anina Saadudin today filed an application in the High Court here to suspend the proceeding to strike off the writ of summons filed by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Anina filed for it to be suspended until the suit that she filed against Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor over her expulsion as a party member was done.

Counsel Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdullah who represented Anina told reporters that the court needed to make a decision on her status in the party first as Najib had alleged Anina did not have any locus standi while filing the writ of summons.

“Najib’s main reason (in filing to strike off the writ of summons) was apparently Anina did not have any locus standi to take this action (suit) as her membership has been cancelled.

“So let the court hears the suit filed by Anina against Tengku Adnan to decide the issue of Anina’s membership first before Najib files an application to strike off the suit,” he said.

Haniff Khatri said the court fixed this Monday for case management before Judicial Commissioner Datuk Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab.

Meanwhile for the suit involving Tengku Adnan, the court has fixed the case management for this Friday before Judicial Commissioner S. Nantha Balan.

On Oct 1, the court granted Najib a stay over the filing of all his statement of defence filed by Anina.

Anina filed the suit against Najib and UMNO executive secretary Datuk Ab. Rauf on Aug 28, among others to reclaim a portion of the RM2.6 billion (US$650 million) donation that was allegedly deposited by Najib into his personal account in Singapore. -Bernama
