Tabalong builds 10 Embung

TANJUNG, South Kalimantan: The Tabalong Food Crops and Horticulture Agency builds 10 embung or small reservoirs in 11 villages to cope with drought in some agricultural areas, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

Head of Agriculture Infrastructure and Facilities (PSP) of Food Crops and Horticulture Agency Sarjono in Tanjung Monday said in 2016 it target to realize 1,000 embung to help irrigating rice fields, especially in the dry season.

“The reservoir can be used for agriculture as well as fisheries as pond fish farming and this year the construction of dam implemented in 10 villages,” explains Sarjono.

The embung built with funds from the state budget are scattered in the sub-district of Jaro, Muara Harus, Muara Uya, Tanjung, Murung Pudak, Tanta, Haruai, Bintang Ara, and Banua Lawas.

The land area used for ponds between 1.5 hectares to 2 hectares hoping to capture the excess water in the rainy season, so it can be used in the dry season.

In addition to target to build 1,000 ponds, the agency also implement a program of making 1,000 hectares of rice fields in 2016.
