KUCHING: Kelab Kembara Anak Sarawak (KKAS) on Monday donated RM3,000 to Persatuan Malim Gunung Kinabalu (PMGK).

The donation was made during KKAS visit to Sabah led by its chairman Yusuf Buji and several other committee members.

Yusuf said the donation was an aid and a tribute to PMGK in which four of its members were among the 18 victims who lost their lives during the June 5 earthquake in Sabah that hit Mount Kinabalu.

Yusuf said KKAS felt an empathy with PMGK which is their counterpart in Sabah.

“Although we are far apart, we feel close to them and share their sadness,” he said, adding that the donation was a small way of helping the club,” he said.

He said KKAS, which was set up in May last year, also gets involved in mountain-climbing activities like what PMGK is doing, and he hoped their visit would strengthen ties between the clubs.

Yusuf also said KKAS plans to carry out mountain-climbing in the state to prepare their members for a similar activity to be held outside the country in future.

Meanwhile, PMGK president Richard Saidi, in thanking KKAS for their moral support, said although the quake tragedy had generally affected the income of the club and the tourism industry in Sabah, the spirit of their members would not be dampened and they will continue to play their role to help the tourism industry.

Also present were KKAS deputy president I, Mohammad Zamahari Abdullah and deputy president II Evelin Ruman.
