Essential oils and their health benefits

KUCHING: Recognised by ancient civilisations for its therapeutic properties, essential oils today have become increasingly in demand for its multipurpose applications that help to ensure greater health and wellness for people all over the world.

As a distinctive branch in herbal medicine, essential oils also allow users to take charge of their own health for its highly beneficial properties, said Young Living independent distributor Wong Wee Yi.

“Essential oils are usually used to boost the immune system, heal disease and prevent someone from falling sick. It is very good for curing bacterial and viral infections too,” Wong said when met at ‘An Oily Discovery’ event held recently.

She pointed out that essential oils were a holistic way to alleviate common health complaints without becoming highly dependent on pharmaceutical medicine, but added that it was also important to seek professional medical advice and treatment.

The two-hour event that had successfully attracted some 70 participants aimed at sharing knowledge on essential oils and its various uses, considered to be a missing link in conventional medicine.

“I believe the essential oil is a really powerful natural way of supporting our health and I just wanted to share this information to as many people as I can,” said Wong, who suggested that essential oils were also really helpful for use during bad weather and haze.

“The molecules in essential oils help to clean the air when you diffuse it,” she said, explaining that she diffuses essential oils at home on a regular basis.

Wong also mentioned that it was important to find an essential oil product that was extracted at its most optimum time by the manufacturer and that could ensure an unadulterated product from the plant’s seed stage to when it is sealed in a bottle.
