Haze-related declaration by Singapore supermarkets

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Environment Council and the Consumers’ Association of Singapore are getting leading supermarkets, pharmacies and furniture retailers to declare they have not procured or used wood, paper and/or pulp from the companies accused of causing fires in Indonesia.

In a joint statement, the SEC and CASE said these major supermarkets, pharmacies and furniture retailers operate several outlets from which consumers purchase paper-based products.

SEC and CASE were to send declaration forms to the companies and their subsidiaries Wednesday and expect these companies to respond within one week.

So far, 12 companies out of 17 have signed and returned the declaration forms to SEC.

For the five companies that did not submit a valid declaration form, SEC will institute temporary restriction on the use of the Green Label granted to the companies pending further investigations. — Bernama
