KOTA kINABALU: Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir said the City Hall (DBKK) had to seek and wait for comments from 12 relevant government departments and agencies before approval could be given.

“It is not as if DBKK can approve an application on the spot by itself or much less delaying an approval on purpose. Rules are rules,” Abidin said when Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) president Datuk Francis Goh paid a courtesy call on him yesterday.

During the call, Francis who recently commented that Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) took too long to approve building or development plans was given a briefing by Abidin.

Francis said he was very satisfied and happy with the Mayor’s reply and thanked him for his explanation.

“I was merely voicing the concern of some of the Shareda members, but I now have a clearer picture,” he said.

Earlier, Francis accompanied the president of the Federation of Sabah and Labuan Chinese Associations, John Lim Yu Sin who also paid a courtesy call on the Mayor.

During the call, Lim received the good news from Abidin that DBKK had approved the application for the building or development plan of the association’s proposed building complex at Karamunsing.

Thanking the Mayor, Lim said the multi-million complex behind the District Police Headquarters would be developed jointly with Francis’ Kinsabina Group.

He expressed confidence that with Francis’ experience, the complex which includes a 2,000-seating capacity hall will be completed within the shortest possible time.
