MIRI: Curtin University Sarawak’s Badminton Club will continue to hold more badminton tournaments and badminton-related events to inculcate a passion for the game among the university’s community and the public in Miri.

This follows the good response to such events including the recent 2015 Curtin Badminton X’treme League.

“The 2015 Curtin Badminton X’treme League was a good opportunity for our players to show off their badminton skills and we hope to get more participation in future tournaments,” said organising chairperson Lee Xiao Yan.

Curtin Sarawak in a statement said Chung Jing Sports Team A and B emerged champion and first runner-up respectively in the Badminton X’treme League.

Chung Jing Team A edged aside Chung Jing Team B for the top spot with a score of 15 to 3.

The champion received RM1,200, 12 gold medals for the players on the team and a challenge trophy. The first runner-up received RM600 and 12 silver medals for the players.

The two teams were among seven teams participating in the round-robin tournament. The other teams were Curtin Team, Team Unique, MBC (A), MBC (B) and LWS Training Centre.

The tournament consisted of two men’s doubles games, two men’s singles games and a mixed double game.

The tournament was sponsored by Alpha Automotive and Service Centre, Alpha Sport and Wee Han Chui.
