KUCHING: A resident of Kampung Jagoi in Bau was admitted into hospital for a shotgun wound after he was accidentally shot in the leg during a hunting trip on Wednesday night.

The 50-year-old was walking in the jungle along Jalan Bau-Serikin at 11pm to hunt with a male relative when the incident happened.

According to sources, the relative was carrying a shotgun and walking in front when he slipped and fell to the ground, causing the loaded weapon to discharge.

The pellets struck the victim in his left thigh, prompting him and his relative to hastily exit the jungle and make their way to Bau Hospital to receive treatment.

The victim, who is in stable condition, was subsequently referred to the Sarawak General Hospital here early yesterday morning to undergo surgery to remove the embedded pellets.

In an unrelated matter, a construction worker perished after falling two stories at his workplace in Sejingkat on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Snap Rinju from Kampung Sira in Padawan. The incident occured around 6pm when the victim, who was standing on a beam on the fourth floor of an uncompleted building, plummeted to the second floor after the beam was said to have given way. Co-workers who heard the crashing sound immediately tried to contact him on their walkie-talkie but did not receive any response.

The seriously-injured Snap was then rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later the same night. His body was transferred to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post mortem, with police classifying the case as sudden death.
