SIBU: A new Grade 3 health clinic has been planned for Daro District, to be built at a new site.

Daro assemblyman Murni Suhaili said this when asked if the three decade-old Daro Health Clinic which was gutted on Wednesday’s pre-dawn fire would be rebuilt.

“We hope everything will go smoothly. The site has been identified, and we are waiting from the government’s approval,” he said of the proposed new clinic, adding that the facility would be similar to that of Lanang polyclinic.

On another note, Murni said the government had approved the building of a fire station in Daro.

Currently, the nearest fire station to Daro is the one in Mukah which is close to two hours away.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Nor Hisham Mohammad said the fire station to be built in Daro would be that of Class D.

“The project is estimated to cost about RM5.5 million and we hope it can be tendered out by end of this year and construction to start in April 2016 at the earliest,” he said.

Class D fire station is manned by 15 permanent firefighters with a minimum of one fire engine.
