KENINGAU: A local woman was killed and two others were injured when the vehicle they are travelling skidded at Mile 7, Keningau-Kimanis road here on Monday.

District Police chief DSP Douglas Nyeging Taong said yesterday that in the 2.20pm incident, the victim was sitting in the rear passenger seat identified as Ng Kin Siew, 30, from Kampung Kalansanan Inanam, died after being warded at Queen Elizabeth Hospital II in Kota Kinabalu.

He said the driver of the Toyota Vios, a man and another male passenger sitting in the frontseat, both aged 19, Taman Luyang, Kota Kinabalu only sustained minor injuries.

On October 5 at about 2.30 pm the complainant, who is also a policeman at the traffic unit of the district police headquarters here a received telephone call from the public, stating that the Toyota Vios had met with an accident at Mile 7, Keningau-Kimanis road.

Investigation at the scene found that the Toyota Vios was moving from Kimanis to Keningau and skidded to the left of the road and hit a cliff while descending a winding steep road, he said.

Douglas said the victim, who sat in the back seat, was thrown out of the vehicle and suffered severe head injuries.

He said the victim was taken to the Keningau Hospital for treatment and then referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II in Kota Kinabalu for further treatment.

The driver and passenger sustained minor injuries, he said.

On October 8, at about 1pm the police received a call from QEH II staff nurse, saying the victim had died of serious injuries in the head, Douglas said.

He said investigations were carried out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
