MIRI: There is a plan to develop Tusan Teach in Bekenu by providing the necessary facilities to attract more tourists.

Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education and Family Development Rosey Yunus said such effort would attract locals and tourists alike to patronise Tusan Beach known for its unique stone formation along the coastline.

“Tusan Beach has great potential to be further developed as a Culture, Adventure and Nature (CAN) tourism spot in the area.

“There are actually many things you can do at the beach such as diving, water sports, rock climbing, trekking and many others,” she said about the future development of Tusan Beach when met recently.

Rosey, who is also Bekenu assemblywoman, praised the local people for their commitment and contribution in making the beach a worthwhile place to visit.

“I am touched by their commitment. Some of them even have homestay programme there by designing various activities for tourists as well as the local people.

However, she said there were still many tourism potentials yet to be fully tapped such as Kedayan culture and arts as well as the local cottage industry.

“Not many people know about Tusan Beach but the first sighting of the ‘bio-luminescence’ (Blue Tears) natural phenomenon along the beach last month, has led to many people from nearby area as well as tourists coming to the beach at night to enjoy the rare phenomenon.

“Those who have visited Tusan Beach are sharing their pictures with their friends through the social media. The beach is now quite popular through words of mouth and the social media.”

As such, Rosey said she would work with Subis District Council to look for suitable plans to develop the beach. She said she would submit the proposal to the relevant authorities.

She also suggested the need to build concrete steps for easy access to the beach and to install safety railings since the beach was a few feet sheer drop from the ground.
