BINTULU: redONE is offering customers the widest and best mobile network at the lowest postpaid rates.

Chief sales officer of redONE Network Sdn Bhd, Ben The, said their main targets group are those who are savings conscious.

“We are only three years in Malaysia but we already have 700,000 users, and are looking at achieving one million users by end of the year,” he told The Borneo Post after witnessing the launch of its redONE Premier Shop in Bintulu yesterday.

He said the premier shop is a retail level of its partnership programme and is a concept store.

“We plan to set up 100 shops in Malaysia, and this is our 91st. In a few months we will complete 100 shops,” he said. Presently there are six concept stores in Sarawak.

Asked on the advantage of subscribing to redONE, Ben said it’s cheap and convenient.

“Customers look at the minimum usage per month needed to subscribe. Most of the population feel prepaid is troublesome – top up is confusing and have to keep on checking.

“A lot of active prepaid users have moved to postpaid as they want something cheap, they don’t have to pay high cost elements, which is why the RM8 postpaid plan is catchy,” he said.

The RM8 postpaid plan offers unlimited free calls to any redONE user.

“People are now more concerned about data – in redONE we launch our 3GB high speed data for only RM40.

“RM8 unlimited free calls and RM40 unlimited data is a very good combination. Most of my users see savings in it.

“They actually reduce the free calls by end of the day; they look at the bill, maybe redONE data plan is not the cheapest in the market, but it’s still savings because other family members are also using it,” Ben said.

He said redONE business had been growing fast. The premier shop is a unique concept, and redONE is the first telco in Malaysia to recruit individuals as agents.

“We train them to become our sales advisor – everybody can become a redONE agent,” he said.

They are the first telco in Malaysia to go paperless as they use a tablet and Mykad reader to register new subscribers on-the-spot without using a form. The tablet also serves as a catalogue.

He said it was easy to become an agent, and that the premier shop is where they appoint agents and train them in sales work.

Unlike other telcos, redONE give their agents revenue sharing rather than a big incentive upfront, and this helps the agents build a sustainable income over the long term.

A redONE agent will get a commission for signing up a new customer, and also a revenue share of the customer’s bill.

“We are targeting 10,000 agents by yearend and 30,000 next year. Presently we have 700,000 users in Malaysia with some 50,000 users in Sarawak,” Ben said.

In January next year, redONE will be launching a new product called a hybrid package which is similar to prepaid but with postpaid features.

“Some 80 per cent of customers in Malaysia are still using prepaid; we try to convince them to take a look at hybrid first before changing to postpaid later if they want,” he said.

redONE, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), was recognised as MVNO Service Provider of the Year at the 2014 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards.

An MVNO is a telecommunications service provider that does not own any spectrum assets. It offers services by riding on existing/ incumbent mobile operators’ networks. In its case, redONE rides on Celcom’s network.

Officiating at the launching ceremony were Temenggong Barry Yek representing Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Datuk Pau Chiong Ung, and chairman of Federation of Registered Chinese Association Bintulu, Datuk Dr Wong Aik Loung.
