MIRI: SK St. Joseph Miri bagged 14 gold, two silver and three bronze medals to emerge overall primary schools champion in the 3rd YB Datuk Lee Kim Shin Challenge Trophy Inter-School Swimming Championship at the Public Swimming Pool here on Friday.

SJK Chung Hua Pujut came up second with 13-2-1 while SK Agama (Mis) was third with 7-6-0.

The other schools which competed were SJK Chung Hua Miri, SR Sri Mulia, SJK North, SJK Chung Hua Krokop, SJK Chung Hua Tudan, SK Lutomg, SK Jalan Bintang, SK St.Columba, SK Pujut Corner, SK Temenggong Datuk Muip, SK Tudan, SK Merbau Miri and SK Senadin.

In the secondary school category, Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS) emerged overall champion with a tally of 25-20-5.SMK Lutong (9-0-3) and SMK Chung Hua Miri (2-13-5) were runner-up and third.

Swimmers from SMK St. Columba Miri, SMK Pujut, SMK Lopeng Tengah, SMK St. Joseph Miri and SMK Pei Min also competed.

A total of 142 swimmers from 16 primary and eight secondary schools participated in the championship organised by RRSS and assisted by the Miri Amateur Swimming Association (Masa).

Masa president Rofiza Morshidi officiated at the closing ceremony and gave away the prizes. Also present were RRSS principal Richard Liu Si Choong and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Fong Onn Min.
