BINTULU: ABFSB and Sibuti Bavarian FC were declared joint winners of the 9-a-side Bintulu Resident Football Cup at the Dewan Suarah football turf pitch here on Sunday.

The score was 1-1 after extra time. As it was already too dark it was initially decided that the penalty shoot-out would take place the next morning.

Sibuti Bavarian coach Mohd Hakimi Man then informed that his players could not be present for the shoot-out as some of them had to go back to their schools in Miri to sit for examinations.

“We are willing to take the second place but both teams made the final say and agree to share the title,” he told The Borneo Post. Both teams also agreed to share the cash prize of RM800 equally.

Earlier in the semi-finals, ABFSB beat Exbin 2-0 while Sibuti Bavarian FC overcame Ensumbar FC 1-0.

Exbin then defeated Ensumbar FC 1-0 for third place.

Present at the final kick-off were Bintulu Youth and Sports officer Nik Mohammad Asraff Nik Mod Kamal and Football Association of Sarawak vice president cum Bintulu Football Association (Bifa) president Duke Janteng.

A total of 20 teams competed in the tournament namely BICT, Kelingkang FC, Kelalong United, Ensumbar FC and Exbin (Group A); Legend United, Cako Jamal, SPA Muda, ABFSB and KSR BINDA (Group B); Lastalavista, Synergy FC, One FC, MAB and Penjara Bintulu (Group C); Aikagaya FC, AC Kirin FC, ADTEC, Sibuti Bavarian’s FC and Educator (group D).

The tournament, organised by Bintulu Youth and Sport Office and hosted by Bifa in collaboration with Bintulu Development Authority, was held in conjunction with the National Sports Day programme for Bintulu division.
