LAWAS: Putera Kuala Lawas Dart Open Championship drew a whopping 86 teams from Sabah, Labuan, Brunei and Sarawak, making it a record of sorts for a village in Sarawak.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, who officiated at the opening ceremony, commended Kampung Pemukat of Kuala Lawas and the organising committee for the success, saying it reflected their can-do spirit. “ This spirit is make do, can do, is key to success and you have proven it facing the limitations and constraints for this regional meet,” he said.

The organising committee put up RM10,000 worth of prizes, including cash prizes of RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM700 for the top three teams in the tournament held on Oct 10-11. Tengah hoped such healthy sport activities would continue to be held to keep social ills at bay, unearthing new talents and fighting obesity in the local community.
