KUCHING: A passenger taking an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) to Sibu airport yesterday was shocked that her booking details were obtained by a third party.

According to her, on the night prior to the flight, she received a text message from the number ‘+18053030117’ saying that flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sibu on Oct 20 will be rescheduled to Oct 22 due to the haze.

Feeling something amiss, she called the number which was an international number possibly from the United States.

She then asked Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KIA2) about the cancellation of the flight and was told that the flight was in fact not cancelled and would take off on schedule.

When contacted yesterday, AirAsia clarified that any messages from the number ‘+18053030117’ to their passengers were not from their customer care team.

Meanwhile, according to a senior officer in the airline service industry, the details of passengers were confidential. An airline company would usually send messages based on phone numbers given in the booking reference to advise passengers on any flight delays or cancellations.
