KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is happy with the federal allocation of RM29.2 billion for Sarawak and Sabah under Budget 2016.

He said his administration would allocate RM500 million for rural transformation projects in the state’s Budget 2016, which will be tabled in December.

With such a grant, Adenan said he could build more bridges and roads as well as improve the dilapidated state of many rural schools.

“I want to build more bridges which we already have plans for but could not do so because we have no money. I also want to build more roads and do many other things.

“The state of our rural schools is terrible. I want to do something about that. And sometimes, you don’t want to depend on the federal government,” he said at the question-and-answer session held in conjunction with a townhall session titled ‘Kamek Ngan CM Adenan’ (Me and CM Adenan) at the Putra World Trade Centre on Saturday.

The state government also approved RM500 million for rural development in its last budget.

Together with the coming allocation, it will have doled out RM1 billion to transform rural areas within two years.
