KUCHING: The Sarawak Badminton Association team continued to dominate in the 2nd Leg of the Sarawak Junior State Closed badminton championship that ended at the SBA Badminton Hall along Jalan Lapangan Terbang last Sunday.

They grabbed two titles, were runner-up in three categories and had seven third placings in the competition held from October 23-25.

Felicia Fong Xin Hui starred for SBA as the 15-year-old student of SMK Batu Lintang won the Girls U15 singles crown after she outpointed younger sister Flora Fong Xin Jie, 14, also from SMK Batu Lintang, 21-18, 21-19 in the final.

Sharon Thien Fang Jing completed a clean sweep of the top three spots for SBA by finishing in third place.

Felicia scored a double after she partnered Floria to top the Girls U15 doubles competition beating Lloyderyena Xalfira (MBA) and Sharon Thien (SBA) 21-14, 21-10, Gladys Tan-Joyce Voon Ern Cze (SBA) 21-10, 21-11 and Carol Liew Pei Sian (KBA) and Jojo Thang Yu Rou (MBC) by a walkover.

SBA shuttlers who finished second in the competition were Barrie Chong Kwang Wei who lost 21-17, 13-21, 12-21 to Syafiq Azhar Haizan of Pacific Badminton Management in the Boys U15 singles final, and the pair of Kashley Kho Tze Yin and Olivia Hiu Liying who went down 16-21, 17-21 to BN’s Erika Vallensia and Ho Sing Yen in the Girls U12 doubles.

Erika was victorious in the Girls U12 singles final where she defeated Sing Yen 21-19, 21-18.

Erika and Sing Yen also received an incentive from SBA for having won the Girls U12 doubles title at the recent National Junior Circuit Grand Prix Finals in Kedah.

CJS did not go home empty-handed as they bagged the Boys U15 doubles title through Orville Chan Tak Fong-Zachary Sia Chong Shen who beat PBM’s Brian Kho-Syafiq Azhar Haizan 21-15, 21-16.

The Girls U12 doubles was won by Joshua Voon Ern Hua (SBA) and Pui Wee Young (CCY) who triumphed 21-18, 21-11 over Kenyson Josep Lojir (BN) and Radzien Jawharee (MBA).

Wee Young also took the Girls U12 singles title after beating Kenyson 21-15, 21-11.

A total of 248 players participated in the competition that was aimed at selecting players to represent Sarawak in future national level competitions.
