KUCHING: Kuching folk will get to enjoy a live concert by Korean groups, which include Lee Jung and his dance group Nourja, Stella, and several yet to be confirmed in January next year.

This is the first time Lee will be performing in Kuching and the concert will also promote Kuching in particular and Sarawak in general, to Koreans, said Borneo Business Concerting managing director Terry Kim Tae Kiun.

“The concert is almost confirmed around January next year. The venue is yet to be confirmed and once we’ve confirmed we will inform the press,” said Kim at a press conference at Sarawak Club on Thursday.

The concert is supported by Padawan Municipal Council (PMC).

“The young people will know who Lee Jung is, I’m old so I don’t know too much. This is a good opportunity for Kuching people and will promote tourism between Sarawak and Korea. Lee’s first impression of Kuching is that the people are approachable and friendly and I am proud of this,” said PMC chairman Lo Khere Chiang.

He added that Kuching people love watching Korean dramas and K-pop music and they will appreciate the live concert even more.

“We have a huge asset – forest, flora and fauna, natural environment that Koreans love. It’s not easy to find natural tropical rainforest and this means we have something to offer and attract Korean tourists here.”

Kim who was previously in the tourism industry in Sabah said that there were 4,000 to 5,000 Korean tourists visiting Kota Kinabalu a week. Very few come to Sarawak because there is no direct flight.

He hopes to charter a flight to bring Korean tourists here too.

He also plans to bring the concert to Miri after Kuching.

Also present were Borneo Business Concerting manager Abraham Son, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Pujut Branch chairman Adam Yii and secretary-general Dato Sebastian Ting.
