KUCHING: Malaysia will adopt the official definition of youths as those aged 30 years and below beginning 2018 following similar moves by developed countries.

“Currently our country classify youths as those aged 40 and below and in 2018, the maximum age will be 30,” Sarawak United National Youth Association (Saberkas) secretary-general Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said at the MIB 300 leadership seminar held at D’Cove Family Park here yesterday.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Pantai Damai assemblyman, said Saberkas and the government were committed in producing quality leaders among the youths and this had been manifested through the various leadership programmes conducted nationwide.

“Programmes such as today are aimed at inculcating various skills in youths to prepare them for leadership roles in the future,” he said.

He urged youths to learn to shoulder responsibilities at a young age so that they would be well endowed for bigger roles when they grow older.

“The government aspires to see these youths lead programmes and activities in future where they know what they are doing without the need for assistance,” he said.

The MIB 300 is a nationwide programme that seeks to create potential youths leaders.

Also present were Saberkas state exco member Leonard Jambu, National Youth Council assistant treasurer Ahmad Daniar Ismail and event chief facilitator Dr Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad.
