SIBU: Muhamad Imran and Law Li Shin emerged champions in the boy’s and girl’s categories of the monthly U-12 badminton competition held at Thumb’s Up Badminton Academy here last weekend.

Imran beat Jonathan Yii 30-18 while Li Shin over-powered Chieng Yung Shi 30-19 in their finals.

Clarence Ting and Anson Law (boys) and Honey Leong and Connie Yu (girls) were joint third.

A total of 29 boys and 17 girls took part.

Meanwhile, entries for the November edition is now open for registration. The closing date is Nov 22.

The tournament has three singles categories – Boy’s and Girl’s U-12, U-15 and U-18.

It is open to players in the central region which includes Sarikei, Meradong, Selangau, Durin, Kapit and the surrounding areas.

The top eight players who accumulated the most points in their respective categories will qualify for the Dec 26 finals.

Each category will take in a maximum of 32 players. Any category receiving fewer than 16 entries will be cancelled.

The competition will be played on a 30-point single knock-out basis.

To qualify for the finals, a player must take part in the monthly competition at least four times from May to Nov.

For the ranking system, the champion gets 16 points followed by runner-up (12), losing semi-finalist (8), losing quarter-finalist (4), loser in 2nd Round (2) and loser in 1st Round (1).
