MIRI: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Miri District (DM13) yesterday intercepted a local fishing boat about 13.7 nautical miles from Tanjung Lobang beach.

According to DM13 enforcement head First Admiral (Maritime) Abim Sungom, the MMEA patrol ship was conducting Ops Permai at the Miri coastal area when it came across the boat with registration number SF3-2099.

Following a check on the boat, the team found that the boat had five crew members from Indonesia, two of them without a valid working permit from Malaysia Fisheries Department and suspected to have overstayed in Malaysia.

The boat was seized and escorted to the Vessel Detention Centre for further investigation.

The public can contact MMEA DM13 office at 085-418204/085-434055 if they have complaints.
