KAPIT: The state government has allocated RM35 million for building the 170-metre Mujong Bridge that will be the final link to Sungai Tunoh in the newly minted Bukit Mabong district.

Revealing this when officiating at the ceremony to declare Bukit Mabong as a new district in Kapit Division yesterday, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said works on the project would start early next year.

At the same function, Adenan also approved RM5 million to build a new water reticulation system for Kapit.

“The total cost is RM10 million, half of it will be funded by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and another half from the state government.

“Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi told me that he is worried the existing pipes could burst due to high water pressure,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, Land Development Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing said the Sungai Tunoh hinterland was really crucial for the development of Bukit Mabong district.

He pointed out that unless and until Sungai Tunoh hinterland is developed and able to generate sufficient income, the development of Bukit Mabong township cannot and will not succeed.

As such, Sungai Tunoh hinterland must be developed before construction of the Bukit Mabong township can begin, he added.

Among others present at the ceremony were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong and Kapit Resident Fedrick John George.
