SIBU: Malaysia Engineering Institution (IEM) Sibu branch is urged to be creative to produce engineering products that are competitive globally.

Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said engineer should keep on learning through their lifetime.

“Engineering products work efficiently, but sometimes they will become irrelevant and obsolete,” he said at the IEM Sibu annual dinner here on Friday.

Wong said engineers needed basic knowledge and be innovative and creative to enhance their productivity.

Also present were IEM Sibu Tiong King Wei and sponsor of IEM Sibu Sim Kok Kee.

Wong, who is also Minister for Local Government and Community Development, reminded engineers on concept, efficiency and communication.

He said concept meant possessing the latest knowledge, skills and ideas.

“When you have those criteria, you can work with efficiency,” he said.

He also said communication with the best individuals was important as engineers could do the best in their career.

He urged engineers to join IEM as it had contributed much to the community and they had brought a lot of changes to the world.
