KUCHING: SBS Giant Racing Team, for the second time in a row, rode away with the Mayor’s Cup at the Sarawak Energy Siol Mountain Bike XCO Challenge 2015.
The team comprised Mohd Adham Mohd Arif, Tan Chee Yong, Maszyaton Mohd Radzi and Muhammad Fauzan Ahmad Lufti.
Meanwhile, in the Men’s Junior category, Mohd Faizikry Jumah from the Sabah team won first place while Mohd Adham Mohd Arif from SBS Giant Racing and Wan Haikal Wan Zainal from MSN Sarawak/Polygon were second and third respectively.
In the Men’s Veteran category, Nor Sufian from Corbusier finished first ahead of Chung Xan Tang from 3GX and Tan Chee Yong of SBS Giant Racing.
SBS Giant produced another winner Masziyaton Mohd Radzi in the Women’s Open. Siti Aisyah Alias from Pahang and Siti Nur Adibah Mohd Fuad of MSN Kedah were second and third.
In the Men’s Open category, Muhammad Fauzan Ahmad Lufti again from SBS Giant Racing finished first in front of Shahrin Amir and Ma Chau Ying.
According to the text of the speech by Sarawak Energy’s group chief executive officer Datuk Torstein Dale Sjotveit, mountain biking was gaining popularity as an adventure sport in Kuching.
“We hope that the organising of this programme, with our support, will go beyond this point and will become an internationally recognised event and be something that cyclists from around the world will look forward to every year.
“This also gives another reason for visitors to come to Sarawak, not only because of its nature attractions, but also because of sporting events such as this,” Torstein said, adding that there were 20 participants from Sarawak Energy in the various categories of the event.
Present at the closing ceremony of the mountain bike event was Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai who also gave away the prizes to the winners.
