KUCHING: Joseph Emmanuel Ang provided the first golden strike for defending champions Paranaque City at the 29th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship at Megalanes Adventure World, King’s Centre yesterday.

The 26-year-old, who finished among the top 10 in last year’s event in San Juan City, Philippines, amassed a total of 1,455 pinfalls over six games to take the gold medal in the men’s singles event that saw the participation of 56 bowlers.

Finishing 52 pinfalls behind the champion was Chong Jun Foo of Kuching City South while Lee Tak Man of Macau won the bronze medal after he posted a score of 1,333 pinfalls.

Other Sarawakians finishing in the top 20 were Christopher Tiong Lee Siong (7th – 1,290 pinfalls), Abg Afiq Yazid Abd Azman (9th – 1,270 pinfalls), Adri Shahri Santosoh (12th – 1,250 pinfalls), Ervin Lim Wai Mun (14th – 1,243 pinfalls) and Bong Kihow (19th – 1,218 pinfalls).

In the women’s singles event, Gillian Lim Siew Geok from Kuching City North missed the bronze medal by 11 pinfalls, losing out to Lara Posadas of Paranque City.

The gold medallist was Madine Aries who felled 1,334 pins over six games, pipping Qistina Zainal of Petaling Jaya by only two pins.

176 bowlers from 15 teams namely Kuching City North, Kuching City South, Padawan, Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Pasay City, Paranaque City, Daegu, Belait, Bandar Seri Begawan, Kowloon City, Hong Kong City, New Territories of Hong Kong and Macau are taking part in the championship hosted by Amateur Tenpin Bowling Association of Sarawak.
