KOTA KINABALU: Four drug addicts were among 32 people detained by police during an operation to flush out illegal immigrants.

Acting city police chief superintendent Mohd Azhar Hamin said the five-hour operation, which began at 2am yesterday, was carried out at Kampung Saga in Alamesra, PPRT at Jalan Kionsom and a squatter colony at Jalan Bambangan in Inanam.

“A total of 52 people, including adults and children, were rounded up for documentation and 32 were held further for not providing any legal documents,” he said, adding that those nabbed were three men, 10 women and 19 children.

Six men also had their urine checked for drug consumption and four of them were held for further investigation, he added.

Mohd Azhar also said the operation involved 118 officers and personnel from the city police contingent, City Hall, National Registration Department, Immigration Department and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).

“We will carry out such operation from time to time, especially at areas occupied by illegal immigrants in the state capital,” he said.
