The event began with a recitation of Sarah Al-Fatihah led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

In a welcoming remark delivered by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Roselan bin Haji Mohamad Daud, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office in his capacity as the Chairman for the Premiere Lecture Knowledge Convention 2015, he explained that the convention is part of the programme that was organised in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 69th birthday celebration.

He continued by saying that for this year’s convention, Wasatiyyah Asas Kesejahteraan Sejagat’ or Wasatiyyah, the Basis of Universal Prosperity’ was chosen as the main theme.

The theme, he added, focuses on the subject of welfare for all by emphasising Islamic moderation (Wasatiyyah) as principle in life and guidance from Allah the Almighty to the Muslim Ummah. The theme also centred on the absorption of excellence possessed by individuals, organisation as well as nation.

Her Majesty was then consented to listen to a premiere lecture delivered by Dr Hajah Masnooraini binti Haji Mohiddin, Dean of Faculty of Syariah and Law, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA). She highlighted that Wasatiyyah’ is not a new approach and has in fact, already been adopted and implemented, since decades ago, by Brunei in particular and the region in general.

Among the contents of the lecture revolved on how moderation (Wasatiyyah) could bring impact in building women’s personality towards excellence in the Islamic perspective.

The lecture also further explained how elements of moderation would assist these women in facing and handling challenges in the era of globalisation that will eventually bring impact on individuals, families, children’s education and shouldering a responsibility as a career woman.

Her Majesty and members of the royal family then viewed the week-long exhibition on the Knowledge Convention.

The exhibition also stressed on Wasatiyyah from the Islamic perspective that among other things focuses on the aspect of faith and thinking, administration, communications, laws, industry, economy, health and medical, finance and banking, education, human resources and others.

In another part of the ICC, Her Majesty and members of the royal family also toured the exhibition themed `Upholding the authoritativeness of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’, organised by Balai Kenangan, which depicts His Majesty’s charisma and authoritativeness in governing the country based on the Malay Islamic Monarchy concept and later signed a royal parchment.
