SIBU: Nine primary schools in the Nangka state constituency here will receive 500 copies of English books contributed by
non-profit international development organisation, The Asia Foundation.

The schools – SK Abang Ali, SK Agama, SK St Mary, SK Nanga Bon, SK Ulu Sungai Merah, SK Batu 10, SK Bahagia Jaya, SK Batu 15 and SK Bandaran No.3 – were selected by the International Institute of Public Policy and Management (Inpuma), Universiti Malaya, to receive the contribution.

Nangka assemblyman, Dr Annuar Rapaee in his Facebook account today, said the books would be used for the “I speak English” programme aimed at helping Year 1 pupils of the schools to learn the English language beginning next year.

“In this regard, members of the Sibu Bumiputera Graduates Association will volunteer to help with the implementation of the programme,” he said.

Annuar said the use of the books with various titles would be rotated among the nine schools so that all the pupils could benefit from them.

The presentation of the books was held at Universiti Malaya today.

He hoped the books, to be shipped to Sibu, would arrive before the new school session starts in January.

The contribution is from The Asia Foundation’s Book for Asia programme, part of its initiative to improve lives across developing Asia. -BERNAMA
